On this page, you will find low and high tech resources for Kindergarten students.

• Read a book to your child or have him/her read a book to you. Make this a consistent routine every day--choose a time and a special place in your home.

• Ask the child: What is this book mostly about? (Think main idea.)

• With your child, point out what they can see in the pictures. Ask questions about the characters, setting, colors, etc.

• Have your child talk about, draw pictures, and/or write a response to the book read or heard. What was the text about? What did you like or think was interesting about the text?

• To refine your phonics or reading comprehension skills, watch a BrainPOP Jr. video daily and complete the associated video tasks.

• In order to learn about a grade level appropriate topic through reading, choose an activity from Scholastic Learn at Home or ReadWorks.com and complete the tasks associated with the texts.

• Have your child keep a journal about what is happening each day and what they think and feel each day.

• Students can practice reciting numbers to 100 aloud.

• Work with your child to create a small collection of objects to count. Making sure students are correctly counting each object

• Ask your child to find 10 objects, and then ask them how to compose 10 in more than one way.

• Ask your child to find two small collections of items and describe to someone which collection has more/ less.

• Work with your child to create their own addition/ subtraction story and share it with someone at home (up to 10).

• With your child look for patterns in your house. Then ask your child to draw or write about it on paper.

• Give a small collection of coins to your child, and ask them to describe and identify each coin.

• Your child can go on scavenger hunt to find 2-D shapes at home with a family member (circle, triangle, rectangle, square).

• Guardians can help their child look at examples of graphs (newspapers, magazines, website, evening news, packaging).

  • Ask “what do you notice about this ___? What information is it sharing?”

• Encourage your child to look for 3-D shapes at home (cylinder, cone, sphere, cube).

• With your guardian, keep a journal and record the weather 2 times a day using appropriate symbols to match the weather conditions including:

  • Temperature: hot, cold, cool, warm

  • Wind conditions: calm, breezy, windy

  • Sky conditions: sunny, partly cloudy, cloudy

  • Precipitation: clear, rain, fog

• With your guardian, observe, describe, and draw the appearance of the moon each night or morning.

• With your guardian, collect flowers and leaves from outside, draw the structures in your journal and identify different parts of the flowers and leaves.

• With your guardian, complete a coderZ challenge
